New Adventures with Old Friends
The friends I’ve met at college and the adventures we’ve gone on are amazing and with school just around the corner, I find myself very excited for what the fall holds. But, still, there is nothing like new journeys with old friends. The ones who lived with you through that time you broke down crying in the hallway of your high school or the time your team got second place at state. So, here is one last summer adventure. One last get together before we all head back to our classrooms and dorms with late night essays and the new friends to meet and catch up with.We put Erica and her beloved bucket hat behind the wheel and made our way to Starved Rock and the Matthiessen Trails.Nikki gave us dozens of dad jokes and puns to keep us laughing. Our interesting fact girl was Megan. She read a small portion of the pamphlet about why eagles migrate to Starved Rock and gave us nicely reworded sentences of the same fact. The pro-hiker of the group was Katrina. She’s very into bouldering which is like sideways rock climbing and sound far too intense for me and my arms to handle.I guess I was the visual storyteller for the day…capturing the boy-band album cover moments, the times we realized we were only up half the set of stairs, and when we were captivated by every aspect of nature around us.It was good to bring my camera along, for this adventure, with no agenda other than attempting to capture what I wanted to and could.Because there is no way to make every picture perfect. And lots of times, the pixels in a 4 x 6 frame do no justice to creation. And that’s okay. Because here, nature is the star, and we are the audience.~kj
