My Vespermom
This past May, after my sophomore year had ended, my mom and I got all my things moved out and I dragged her to the concert of one of my favorite bands, Vesperteen (yes, I already wrote a post about them cause maybe I’m obsessed).I wasn’t sure if the night would turn out to be a version of the classic “You’re music is just noise” parent/child relationship, but she’s grown to like this band so much that we listen to their CD on road trips multiple times each way.A few weeks ago, I noticed Vesperteen would be coming close to my school. So, I picked up the phone and called my mom just to nudge that little bit of information her way in hopes she would be willing to come up for a concert.Tonight, on the platform of this baby website I have, I would like to give my mom the Coolest Mom Award due to her efforts of driving through the fairly rainy midwest for three hours for a little mother-daughter half-weekend. She also brought, yet, another load of the things I forgot at home even though I should be a pro at the whole moving into college thing by now. After she picked me up from small-town Holland, we drove on to Grand Rapids for dinner at a semi-sketchy diner where their “fries” were actually dry, diced potatoes. But, nourished and ready to go, we made our way to Pyramid Scheme for Vesperteen. There was another mother-daughter duo right behind us in line and we ended up sitting together at a table on the outskirts of the room. I didn’t get to talk to the other daughter much, but I feel like we should start a Vespermoms-and-daughters Club.Vesperteen got on stage, performed their hearts out, and united a room with their music as they do throughout all the pubs and venues they perform in. We got to meet Colin after the set and had him sign my CD for the third time—I’m hoping by the fifth time, he remembers me.This morning, to conclude our mother-daughter weekend, we put on some grocery store face masks that made us look like we were very sunburnt while making our eyes burn a little and had a nice brunch with quality hashbrowns that definitely redeemed us from the weird french fries last night. If you're interested, I made a Spotify playlist of all the bands that played last night: https://open.spotify.com/user/kelly.ocock/playlist/2Xc7jpF9E3pkWfeOrfBRI7All in all, I love my vespermom.~kj
